The BREW (Business-Research-Entrepreneurship-in Wisconsin) Accelerator was created in 2013 to help support water technology startups with market potential. What makes this accelerator program different from others is its focus on water startups working to solve a specific challenge.

The Global Water Center is where the BREW Accelerator takes place

When Elizabeth Thelen, the Director of Entrepreneurship & Talent, notified us that we got accepted into BREW 5, we were thrilled and thankful to be a part of the other talented participants including 3 startups from Wisconsin (Pulsed Burst Systems LLC, Water Resources Monitoring Group, Plasma Environmental) and Hydrate Gel Filtration from Australia.

We were able to meet with The Water Council, the BREW 4 graduates, and the BREW 5 cohort on July 20th at the Member Appreciation Party in Milwaukee. The ceremony took place at City Lights Brewing, a distillery commissioned in 1902, where we enjoyed snacks and of course, beer (one of Milwaukee's prized industries!)

Where the magic happens

The ceremony began with Elizabeth introducing herself, The Water Council, and the Lt. Governor Rebecca Kleefisch, who encouraged the current opportunities in the water sector within Milwaukee as well as our potential to change the entrepreneurship climate. Afterwards, the BREW 4 graduates were introduced and awarded for their contributions to the growing water sector.

Near the end of the ceremony, the BREW 5 winners were announced in alphabetical order starting with Ecoli Sense. We all went inside the brewery to eat snacks, have drinks, and mingle with everyone else present at the ceremony. The number of innovative and ambitious businesses founded in Wisconsin is astounding -- and we were glad to be a part of it.
